My Approach
As a singer-songwriter, I see my craft as the art of expressing my thoughts, feelings and the ideals that are important to me. During the creative process, a muse spontaneously washes over me with fresh thoughts and ideas. This can often feel like the warm rays of the sun shining upon me on a beautiful summer day.
Since words and music are my passion, I can get lost in my craft, melding sounds together, searching for the perfect word to convey the essence of what comes to me musically. It could often be a jumbled mess, but one in which an artist longs to be.
During this phase, it is important to have some type of recording devise for both audio and text. My cell phone is often the tool of choice, as it has the apps I need to record the inspiration that comes piece by piece. When this happens, I often find myself in a Flow state, where I lose sense of time.
While I compose both spiritual and secular songs, my connection with Deity drives my artistry. This spiritual resource has given me great meaning, which informs my life’s purpose. It creates a spiritual energy within me that acts as a springboard that transcends my own capabilities. When I create or perform music, this energy is released through my artistry, making my songs an extension of my soul. They are a part me.
My Story
After graduating from college with a B.A. in Communication Arts, I worked as a business writer and a volunteer teacher for many years. In addition, I have continually found great joy playing my guitar, singing and writing inspirational words and music.
Since my life-changing conversion to Jesus Christ through a powerful witness of the Holy Spirit, I have become inspired to try to be a good influence in the world. Little did I know as a youth that I would stumble upon a spiritual goldmine in my young adulthood: The Christian values of honesty, love, faith, hope, integrity, service and virtue have been a great guide in my life. I strive to live these values each day and feel it is important to use my gifts and talents that will help make the world a better place.
As a Christian artist, I strive to infuse the ideals of the gospel into my music–whether it be an inspirational or secular piece. Like the famous visual artist, Thomas Kinkade, whom “painted the light,” I, too, strive to paint the light, but with words and music!
It is my hope that my songs will bless lives, touch hearts, lift spirits, and move souls in a positive way. If I can do any or all of these through words and music, then I feel I have succeeded. However, if all I do is entertain, then I feel I have missed the mark…
Entertainment certainly has its place in the world, as it can make a person feel good for awhile. It can refresh a person by allowing them to forget about the troubles and stresses of life for the time being. However, I want to give my listeners something more than that. … Something they can carry with them. …Something that makes a positive, lasting impact.
I truly hope that what I do will–in at least some small way–be of eternal benefit to you!
